How to Grow a Coconut Tree from Seed as a Houseplant

Procedure

Choose a large sized healthy nut from which you can hear water splashing from inside. If you are picking nuts from a tree, pick the ones which have fallen on the ground as they are usually mature and ripe.

Select a container that is big enough to hold the weight of the nut as it grows (at least 8-12 inches deep with reasonable diameter).

Soak the nut in a container with water for 2 to 3 days.

Fill the container with well-draining potting soil and ensure that it has drainage holes underneath.

Plant the nut in soil with the pointed end facing downwards and the end that was attached to the tree facing upwards. Ensure that 1/3 of the nut is above soil level. Place the container in a well-lit, warm area with temperature not below 700F.

Always water the nut to ensure that soil is moist but ensure that the container is not water logged.

The nut will germinate slowly, and take about 4 months to produce a shoot.
