Most avocado trees planted from seeds are used as houseplants, which barely bare fruits because they are not exposed to enough sunlight. An avocado tree planted outside from seed in a sunny spot will grow into a large tree but start to bear fruits after a long time (8-12 years) compared to grafted trees (3-4years).
Materials
Avocado
Toothpics
Glass container
Water
Procedure
Peel a ripe avocado, remove all flesh and dry the pit with a clean dry towel.
Peel off the skin around the pit to quicken the rooting process.
Stick three or four tooth pics deep into the pit.
Fill a glass container with clean water and place the pit in it, with the flat bottom facing downwards, which will sit in the water. Within 2 to 3 weeks, roots will start to appear from the pit.
After a month plus, a new stem will start appearing at the top of the pit. Leave it to grow a few leaves, and then transfer it to a pot containing potting soil.
Cover half of the pit in soil and leave the other half exposed.
Place the plant in a sunny area.
Water the plant whenever it is dry but do not overwater to cause water logging.
Pinch off the first top leaves of the plant so that it develops a strong root system.
